2 Speed Gear Box
Download PDF version
After other manufacturers had failed to meet Pioneer Eclipse demanding specifications, they approached ITW Spiroid to develop prototypes and supply production for this two-speed gearbox, an integral component of their new Dual Speed Electric Buffer.
Challenge
- Prototype samples had to be fabricated via actual production methods for testing, but be delivered in a short schedule.
- Shiftless technology requires precision manufacturing.
- High volume economic cost targets.
Development
- Working with ITW Spiroid engineers and suppliers, from the concept phase, DiMonte Group Inc. designed this gearbox in 3D CAD. Suppliers worked from our CAD database to produce tooling and production level prototypes.
Sourcing
- In addition to using existing Mathews' components where possible, we sourced standard components, and located suppliers for specialty items.
Design for Manufacture
- We researched and specified all components, bearings, and seals, and documented the design for manufacturing.
Cost of Goods Reduction
- After the prototypes were approved, we worked with suppliers to further reduce costs, and still exceed the clients specifications.
