Putting the Design into 'design intent' (23MB)

Inspiration: Gene DiMonte and Ed Eaton gave a series of joint user group presentations at the Chicago SolidWorks User Group (CSUG) showing how (respectively) an Engineer and Industrial Designer might approach the same project - in this case, a drafting lamp.
The Industrial Designer tends to create SolidWorks sketches and features with a focus on fast, flexible change to explore ideas, while the Engineer tends to model with an eye towards documenting the design for manufacturing.
Abstract: In this presentation, J.R presents the hybrid approach we use at the DiMonte Group, using proven modeling practices that allow flexible design exploration on the front end while respecting and capturing the functional requirements and manufacturing information required for Engineering and documenting that design.
